Please accept my condolences. I am privileged have known Gladys. We were among a bunch of retired women who loved to swim and when the Y opened we took to the water. Then we became fast friends. It is with true heartbreak that I read this obituary for Gladys! My sincerest sympathy to the three of you, your extended family, her friends and her colleagues! My time as Principal at Harfitt Primary, were years that I remember with much love, joy and affection. I was so blessed to be surrounded and supported by a wonderful staff, with Gladys being one of them. We worked hard, we prided ourselves on our professionalism and we sincerely cared about the children in our care. But, we also shared in fun and laughter, making the more difficult days better because of each other. Gladys loved "to rock the boat", always challenging, so the end result was better than our starting point, or at least, better understood! She was our 'go to' for mathematics and science, in particular, and we very much respected her intellectual capabilities. So, I feel it important to acknowledge and thank Gladys for her commitment and dedication to the Education System of our Province, and in specific, to the education of countless children from the Burin Peninsula. Gerald, Steven and Andrew, you have every right to be extremely proud of her contributions. Since leaving the area, Gladys and I would periodically encounter each other, more often than not, at the Avalon Mall, where we would have some extended chats, catching up on all "the news"!!! It saddened me to know, in recent years, that she struggled with her health. Please God, that today, her spirit is flying somewhere beautiful and free!
