Born in Grand Bank in 1930, Dad left for Toronto in 1949 and in 1952, met the love of his life, Pearl, whom he married in 1954. In 1974, Mom and Dad moved back to Grand Bank and opened up Frank’s Bike Shop which they ran for 10+ years and then he operated Frank’s Taxi until he retired. Dad made friends easy and had them for life. He continued to share friendships with his Toronto friends while making new and many new ones every day. Dad loved life and was a fierce defender of his family and friends. A hard worker and provider, he never let adversity get in his way, always finding a way to make ends meet and enjoy life at the same time. He loved his boats and being on the water whenever he could for recreation and sometimes to make a living. Beyond friends and family nothing gave him any more joy than a good game of cards. Be it cribbage or whist he had a photographic memory when it came to cards that were played and left to be played in someone else’s hand. Honesty and integrity defined him as did his passions. A Mason and Shriner for almost 50 years he dedicated himself to the craft and making good men better. His charity work through the Boot Shrine club gave him immense pride, joy and happiness.
Once retired, he and Mom spent many years traveling with Mom’s sister Naomi and her husband Martin. On one of their many adventures, they drove from coast to coast and back and Mom and Dad were fortunate enough to visit Alaska, the Yukon Territory and points in between. Their exploits were legendary and we are not sure what they enjoyed the most, the traveling or the mandatory games of cribbage between Dad and Uncle Mart once they got off the road. Loser pours!
A very special thanks to Doctor Beckley for his many years of friendship, fidelity and medical assistance. Thank you for the special care from all of the medical professionals in Grand Bank and St. Johns. Eternal gratitude and love to our friend and angel Loretta Barnes who will always be in our family, our hearts and prayers
Our Dad will be remembered and loved by all who had the great fortune to meet him. Our broken hearts are only eased knowing that he is finally with his sweetheart whom he mourned and worshipped every day.
