It was with deep sadness when I received the news of Kay’s passing just two days ago. In my time in the Parish of Burin Kay and I spent many precious times together….in her hair salon….in her house …and in her cabin (Winterland) and of course in her hot tub. Kay was a true giver of self and her helping hand was stretched out many times to those in need….many more, I’m sure, than I personally know about. To Giles, Kent, Glen and families I extend my sincerest condolences to you at this sad time. Even so..we give thanks to God for Kay’s life of faithful witness while with us on earth. I pray you will know the peace of God that passes all understanding in your grief. Rest now, my friend, in peace. “May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, to the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”

Giles, Kent, Glen and family,
I am heartbroken to hear of Kay’s passing. She was truly one in a million, she taught me words I didn’t know existed in English ;). I went to her hair salon twice a week for over 30 years. I looked forward to every visit, we would laugh so much it hurt. Kay became a good friend, I loved our visits, chats and phone calls.
I know how much she loved Giles, her boys and her grandchildren, they were her everything. Kay has been sick for a while, she hung on and fought a good fight for her family. I hope their memories of what an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and sister she was, will bring them all comfort during this difficult time. I am sorry I could not pay my respects, I am in Vancouver, please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. RIP Kay

Giles, Kent, Glen and families our heart breaks for you. Kay wasn’t one of the best, she was the “best”. We have so many wonderful memories of our amazing travels together-our last being a road trip in August. No matter where the trip, Kay always found something to make us all laugh. An example of this was at Pamela’s wedding in the DR, when she met Grant’s sister Susan for the first time. In Kay’s style she took out her teeth and gave Susan her biggest smile. This was Kay - you met her once and she became your friend.
Kay deeply loved her family, friends and animals. Ethen, Keagan and Charlotte you were the apple of her eye. She cherished all 3 of you.
Kay had a profound love of animals - from the time Glen brought home the parrot “Raselle” to the time we got our ragdolls “Abbie and Archie” for our 60th birthday. Then little Annie joined the Pike animal family in September. Grant and I were on a trip last month and sent her pictures of spider monkeys. Well right away her reply was “I always wanted a monkey, where can I get one like that”?
When it came to animals, Kay was like a magnet - all the strays came to her for help. They all knew she would take good care of them. Well Kay you never got your monkey, but we know you are up there with the angels and surrounded by all the animals that you dearly loved.
Kay my darling friend, you will never be forgotten. I’ll end with “I Love You” which is how we always ended our telephone conversations.
Betty, Grant and Archie.

Giles, Kent (& family) and Glen (& family), I am so saddened to know of Kay's passing. The tears I cried were mixed with laughter and smiles. I truly hope you are all experiencing the same laughter and smiles as well. How can one not remember such an amazing , kind ,funny, loving and huge hearted person without smiling.. There are so many things I could say but I think the entire community knows what a giving and extraordinary person she was. Her love will always be felt no matter where she is. I love you all. Take care.

I count myself lucky for having had the opportunity to know Kay. Her generosity knew no bounds and was matched only by her sense of humour and her willingness to say exactly what was on her mind. The first time I ever spoke to Kay was a phone call congratulating me on my high school graduation and telling me that a card with “some money to buy a drink” was in the mail. This was followed months later by meeting her in person for my first of countless meals in her home. Many haircuts, a stint of working for her and Giles, and several birthday wishes later I had the opportunity to introduce her to my son, Owen. Before we left Kay slipped him “some money to buy a toy”.
Rarely is a community so fortunate to have a member as loved and valued as Kay. She was a titan of generosity, had a heart of gold, told jokes that put a smile on any face, and was a hell of a cook. You’ll be missed by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting you. Love you Miss Kay.

We were so sorry to hear about Kay’s passing. Kay had the biggest heart of anyone I know. I’ll never forget when me and my brother Chase left Marystown one time and Kay was packing a lunch for us, no matter what we said. That “lunch”ended up being a grocery bag each. I’ll never forget her and Giles coming to visit my family on Fogo Island. Kay was a force to be reckoned with and one of a kind. Heaven has gained one of the best. Love Kathryn, Keith, Harper and Harrison.

Kay was the most generous and kind person. We'll miss her love, her hospitality and her incredible sense of humour. Peter and I will never forgot her heartfelt reading of the book, "Go the Fuck to Sleep" when she was visiting us when the boys were young. She embraced me as a child when she did her hairdressing course in Halifax and again when we re-connected as adults many years later when we visited her and Giles with our first born, Keith. I am so glad we had these last 14 years to get to know each other as adults and mothers of 2 boys. Kay always told you she loved you when you said goodbye. Kay, I love you.
