Obituary of Meta Belle Grandy
It is with great sadness the family of Meta Belle Grandy of Garnish announce her passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on March 18th at the age of 86 years surrounded by her loving family.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories daughters Karen Grandy (Rick) and Patsy Hanrahan (Derrick); two beloved granddaughters Dana Nolan (Trevor) and Amy Hanrahan (Cameron); the light of her life great grandson Deacon Nolan; sisters Elizabeth Scott and Shirley Green; many nieces and nephews plus a large circle of other family and friends.
Meta was predeceased by her husband Dermett; parents George and Elsie Hardiman; brothers John Hardiman (Elizabeth), Alpheaus Hardiman (Olive) and baby brother Charles Hardiman; sisters Georgia Fizzard (Norman) and Annie Marshall (Joe); parents-in-law Ralph and Caroline Grandy; brothers-in-law Felix Scott, Wilfred Green, Lorne Grandy (Mary) and Ralph Grandy (Frances); sister–in-law Mildred Grandy; and Special Aunt Mina.
Meta was born July 10, 1937 to George and Elsie Hardiman of Garnish. She resided in Garnish and later married her husband Dermett. They had 2 girls whom they cherished. Meta was a friend to everyone and anyone who came to her home never left hungry. In her earlier years, Meta was considered the town hair dresser who made many house calls. She looked forward to her monthly gathering of over 60s at the Salvation Army Church. Meta's grandchildren were the light of her life. Meta was an extraordinary lady and we know she is smiling down on us and reunited with her husband.
Mrs. Grandy’s family would like to thank the BPHCC Medicine Ward Nurses and Doctors. Also, all her homecare workers who gave her a wonderful life and great care so that she could stay in her own home.
Family will be accepting visitors from United Church, Garnish on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 6PM-9PM and Wednesday, March 20th at 11AM-9PM.
Funeral will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 2PM at Garnish United Church with interment following at the United cemetery Garnish.
Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to United Church Cemetery Fund, Garnish or Diabetes Association.
